Under 9 District Cricket

The trial to establish a Leeds M.D. team for the upcoming district matches (commencing on July 16th and listed elsewhere on this website) will take place this coming Saturday, July 8th at Rodley C.C. LS13 1HW. The trial commences at 9.30 am.

May I remind parents this trial is for players who live within the Metropolitan boundary and pay their council tax to Leeds. Whatever league they play for is irrelevant, as is the school they go to, or their postcode.

Contact MARK SUGDEN for further details.
Players must have had experience of hard ball cricket.

Many thanks to those relatives and friends who brought more than thirty-five boys to our Under 9 and Under 10 trial.... and to the boys themselves, who tried really hard to impress.

The Under 10 squad selected is:

Jack Diffey, capt.

Vinnie Banks

George Ellis

Abdullah Abbas

Sam McBride, wk.

Charlie Westmoreland

Peter Greenfield

Lewis Howard

Freddie Winter

Josh Stephens

Aaron Ratnalingam

Alex Huby

Oliver Thompson

Joseph Alldred

Lorcan Rooke

The following boys are on the reserve list : Tom Boddington, Dhruv Girish and Mason Connor (wk.) These boys may well play during the course of the season as a result of injury, loss of form or unavailability.

Notes were made of promising Under 9's, but a final selection will not be made until the inter-league competition planned for June is nearing its end.

Commiserations to those who were not selected. Go back to you clubs, improve your skills and try again next year.

Who should attend Leeds District trials?

The trials are open to anyone who lives within the Leeds Metropolitan District and consequently pays their council tax to Leeds Council. Residence is the sole qualification, not birth, school or club.

The rules are such this year that no-one who lives within the Leeds boundary will be allowed to play for any other district.

County A and B team players from 2016 do not have to attend this initial phase in the county selection process. The district trial is aimed at non-county players on Bronze Pathways.... or those who attended the District Centres before Christmas.... or those who played Taverners representative cricket last season.

There could be others outside this system who may wish to attend. Their cases will be dealt with on an individual basis.

Everyone attending a district trial will need to register before doing so. They should contact Steve Holliday or Keith Dickson to register their interest. A form can be filled in on the night of the trial.

Where and when will the trials take place?

Thursday, March 16th for Under 9's and Under 10's.

Wednesday, March 22nd for Under 11's.

Thursday, March 23rd for Under 12's and Under 13's.

Tuesday, March 28th for Under 14's and Under 15's.

All trials will take place at the Yorkshire Cricket Centre between 4pm and 6pm.

District fixtures for 2017 will be placed on the website shortly.

We are also short of Managers for the coming season as four people who managed teams in 2016 are no longer able to do so. The age group Managers required are at Under 10, 12 ,14 and 15. Expressions of interest from suitably qualified persons should be addressed to Keith Dickson on 07773722952.
